Valerie's Pantry 101
Have you been to Valerie's Pantry before?
Fear not! This is a simple Valerie's Pantry 101 guide to help ease you into things. It can be a little overwhelming and nerve wracking to shop package free the first time. Do you bring jars? Do you bring a basket? How much should you get at a time? It can be hard to get into the swing of things.
That's why we're here to help! We offer a different shopping experience here at Vals, so we hope you enjoy your time shopping with us!
Step 1: Get organised before you leave home.
Have a box of jars, containers or cloth bags by your front door, in the kitchen, or even in the boot of the car. Have this as you pre-planning or back up so that you'll always have something with you for when you decide to pop in. Have a scan of your pantry at home and write a list of what you need. We are huuuuge advocates for lists!
Step 2: When you arrive, pop up to the counter and weigh your things.
We subtract the weight of any of your containers or bags from the total weight once you have filled them so then you are just paying for what is inside. Bring everything up to us, whether it's a cloth bag, mesh bag, glass jar or tuppaware container, and we'll make a note on it using tape or texta.
Even if some of your containers still have food in them, that's perfectly fine. We'll weigh them as is, with that tare taped on the lid, and the total of the container + the food will be deducted from what you add to it.
Step 3: Get shopping!
Go on, have some fun! Shopping this way is deliberate, it's slow moving, and it's mindful. Have some fun! Enjoy the shopping, enjoy the pull down bins, enjoy looking at all of the plastic free goodies! There's no need to rush, take your time. While you're at it, you can make a note of the codes of the products, but there's absolutely no stress if you don't, we know them all!
It's as simple as that. When you're done, we'll pop everything through for you and deduct the weight of all of your containers off. It's so easy. You are also more than welcome to grab a receipt to see how easy and cheap it is to shop this way. Better yet, we can email your receipt to you rather than printing it off!
